DIABETES AND WOMEN OF COLOR

Especially for women of color. Explains why diabetes is much more than "a little touch of sugar". That's because of the complications of diabetes if it's not controlled, including blindness and kidney failure.

Explains that the disease is more common in African-American, Hispanic, Native American and Asian-Pacific Islander women, and many of them don't even know they have it.

Gives key risk factors for diabetes such as:

  • family history of diabetes,
  • being overweight or obese, and
  • hypertension (high blood pressure).

Also gives advice on how to prevent and control diabetes.
